This work was all completed by 0600 this morning, and we had no further problems related to it.

And we're done! Almost exactly on time.

Well, I say this; we're done with the disruptive work now, however our IX Manchester peering sessions will take a little while to come back - we'd forgotten to tell LINX to change to the MAC address for the new line card.

As soon as that MAC change is actioned, the sessions will come back by themselves.

We'll leave this open for a few hours, to ensure that everyone's seen it, but we will be leaving Williams House shortly.

Thanks to all for your patience this evening.

We've had lots of work going on behind the scenes here.

The router is presently reloading into a new firmware, which takes a surprising amount of time.

Once that's done, and successful, we'll begin repatching connections into the new line cards, and then bringing te routing back to where it should be.

We should still be on course for an 0600 finish.

Hello,

Preliminary work is taking place now, and we'll begin removing traffic from the router at 23:00.

As before, for the vast majority of customers this should be at-risk work. We'll be monitoring our own internal alerting, and for related support tickets throughout as a matter of course.

However, for urgent matters please do continue to contact us as you would normally, so as to ensure the best response times.

Hello,

Between the hours of 22:30 (GMT/UTC+0) on Tuesday 24th of January, to 06:00 on Wednesday the 25th of January, one of our core routers will be down for essential upgrades. We will be replacing the line cards, and upgrading the software in one fell swoop. This is quite a lot of work, and so we're reserving plenty of time to do it.

For the vast majority of our customers, this will be nothing more than an at-risk period, and there will be no outage felt. You may notice that our peering sessions at IX Manchester will be shutdown, along with our Cogent IP transit, and thus you might see a jump in latency from the usual amounts; typically due to traffic re-routing via London.

Any customers that will experience an outage, will have already been notified. Some of this is prerequisite work, and will take place at 22:30, with the main bulk of the work continuing from 23:00. If you have received such a notification, and have any queries about its content (or are unsure) then please do get in touch.

Updates will be posted to this page to keep you all updated along the way.

Many thanks,

Tom
