As there were no further reports of problems, and the service has stayed up for the previous 12+ hours I believe this outage-report can now be resolved.

As ever if you believe you have a problem please do get in touch.

Our upload-host is now available once again, we don't believe any data has been lost, but if you do see any issues with outdated DNS-records you should be able to resolve them by running your upload script again.

Once again we apologize for this outage, we've updated our backup regime for this host to run every hour, rather than every 24 hours, to minimize the chance of a similar failure in the future.

We've now restored the upload host, but we're in the process of reconciling the live data on our public nameservers, along with the data on this machine itself.

We'll be disabling processing of new uploads until that is complete, to avoid reverting to hosted DNS at the time of the last backup - we'll estimate 1-3 hours to complete that process.

We provide a DNS-hosting service to all our users. This DNS service allows our users to upload their DNS data via the use of rsync to the host upload.ns.bytemark.co.uk, once uploaded the records will be served by our three nameservers:

  • a.ns.bytemark.co.uk
  • b.ns.bytemark.co.uk
  • c.ns.bytemark.co.uk

Our nameservers are all functional. However, upload.ns.bytemark.co.uk is currently down due to disk failures. Your DNS records are still being served by our nameservers, but you cannot upload any DNS record changes until this is fixed.

Sorry about this! We're working on restoring the upload server as soon as possible.
