All customer-facing interfaces are now back online, and with that, the data centre network in Manchester is now resilient once again.

Here ends the maintenance window. However, I will be be keeping an eye on everything for a short while, just in case.

The disparity in the IPv6 routing behaviour has been resolved; just required some more explicit policy.

cs1.reynolds.man is converged with the rest of the network, as it was before, and I will now be bringing the customer-facing interfaces back up (which will be the end of the maintenance window.)

Currently just debugging a little disparity within the IPv6 BGP routing behaviour between the two versions. If need be, we can also revert back and try this again, but I'm hoping to have resolution for that soon.

cs1.reynolds.man has been effectively disconnected from the network, so the software upgrade is about to begin. Once I'm satisfied that all is well, I'll bring it back into the network.

We'll be beginning this maintenance in about 15 minutes. Software is being preloaded to the router (and verified) at the moment. Assuming all is OK there, we'll begin taking links down at 22:00 and then proceed with the software upgrade.

On Tuesday the 19th of January - beginning at 22:00 GMT (UTC+0) - we intend to upgrade the software on one of the two core switches providing IP & IPv6 gateway services in our Manchester data centre.

The device to be upgraded is currently the backup device for all data centre services in Manchester, and the primary device will not be similarly upgraded during this window, such that we are treating this as an 'at risk' period only. No interruption to your services is to be expected.

The software version that we're intending to move to has a number of bug & feature fixes included, the primary of which is to the URPF features which help protect our services from abuse. This particular software release has been operating on our routers in York for some time, and has proven itself to be stable.

We will update this issue again shortly before the work is intended to begin. Should you have any queries regarding this work, please don't hesitate to contact us via your regular support means.
